Donde esta el banyo?..........yea i know its spelt wrong....bite me

Ola! Currently I'm presiding in Madrid! Woohoo! Ive been told that I came at the worst time to Spain because a) its the hottest time of the year and b) everyone's on holidays....but yea its cool...maaaan I hate backdating all this journal stuff....ah well, here goes

27th--We did some more car washing today; i went with Marlene, Shun Ling and Peter while the irish guys went with Heinrich. We have been sent out at around 3pm each day which isnt that great because most people are not at home so we didnt get many takers. We did however run into this one guy named Friech (no idea how to spell it, its like a contraction of frederich or something; pronounce it freak). He was just standing outside listening to his boombox or whatever and we approached him, asked if we could wash his car, said he didnt have one, and i dont know how but suddenly we started to talk about God and how he believes in himself only. He spoke a bit of english (he was belgian) and he said like things havent been going well for him, his dad had hung himself, he's been working for a while at like a blacksmith smelting place thing and that he was almost 20. Only the last part actually hit me cus, holy cow, i was almost 20....kinda.....you get the idea. He's actually the only guy in flipping Gent who seemed to be my age. I didnt really want to talk talk to him cus i felt like the four of us were just pressuring him like a bunch of 14 year olds with a pack of cigarettes so when Marlene asked me to explain to him what we believed i said i really couldnt. so she did. and Friech didnt reject it or anything he just took it in stride and then we gave him a small book, gospel of john i think, then Peter was like, "Can we pray for you?" That was really cool and he said yes, and Peter prayed a short prayer for him, and only about half-way through it Freich decided to turn off his boombox so he could hear better. So that was good. And he said that nobody had done that to him before and he was thankful etc etc.
So later on the irish guys and myself, along with Heinrich's kids, decided to go down to the park and play football/basketball. Once again, the football court thing was taken so we messed around with the basketball court and Jake turned up (the afghanistani who kicked ass at everything) so eventually we started to watch the game that was going on. It was between some sort of all star Turkish team led by some punk with ridiculous Beckham hair. So i called him the Queen cus he was basically ordering everyone around like it was his friggin court and he of course showed off 24/7 with his stupid haircut so yea. When we were finally asked by Her Majesty to come on the guys were like, hey james are you playing?, and i was like, nah i think ill sit this one out cus they seem to actually know what they're doing and i dont want to make a fool of myself.........again......so after much prompting and being called Doogle i got Heinrich's boys to replace me and all went well. Her Ladyship figured that cus we were white, well, 5/6ths of us were, that we werent gonna be much of a team so he just threw on a bunch of 'whoever hadnt played in a while' and basically just messed about. However, Brian, Matt, and Jake were a pretty damn good combo and completly schooled The Queen's team with me cheering on the sidelines. Actually i was cheering so loud that Brian came over and told me to shut up or else the Turks would want to kick my ass so yea i was a little quiter. for a minute. Eventually Her Royal Highness got the idea and after being frustrated from each goal scored against him and after swearing at his teammates in Turkish, cus, of course, it was never his fault, he called a time out and got on his good players. They all started pulling up their socks and stretching and kicking the ball around...i think they wasted about 20 minutes just getting ready so finally, they got on the court and again, we kicked their ass......TWO TIMES!!! and i was cheering and everything on the sidelines like an idiot and all the Turkish kids next to me would imitate me shouting stuff like "Niiiiiiiice!" which, because they didnt know english came out like "Nyyyyyze!" or "Go son!" which came out like "Gozon!" and they'd kept repeating it over and over. Oh yea during their warm-up session Brian and i decided to go down and buy some water. So on the way, i hinted at this before, we got into the talking of drinking and stuff and Brian revealed to me that he had some sort of past. Turns out he was one of those guys who kinda screwed up their life and then turned to Christ and he was drinking and smoking at around 15 and so on, leading the whole 'double life' thing. But he changed, and somehow he maintained his mad skillz in sports despite the drinking and so forth so yea.....that was different....Brian the badass hahahahaha. So yea we won and the Turkish boys were all, how did the white guys beat us? so we offered them some of the water we brought, probably reparations from all of my yelling, and then we dropped Charl and Arman off to Heinrich's place.
It was kinda late but he offered us drinks and all so we stayed and he talked about doing tourism and stuff in South Africa which was cool. We talked for a while about his experiences and then he prayed for us. That was wicked, he like did this whole quoting from the Bible thing like he knew it like the back of his hand thing you know? like quoting from this book and then this chapter and so on and that was awesome. So we thanked him and left.
By the time we got home it was hella late, but as we sat outside our room eating 'babs' we could hear Peter's snoring...through the door. Then Brian and Matt believed me that his snoring could wake the dead. Im not sure how we did it, but we must of stopped him or something cus i actually got sleep that night so yea...

28th--Today we did more car washing but because there was some nice weather, Leo figured that because Brian and Matt were so effective in talking to random strangers about nothing (no offense to them), they could go with Heinrich to Blaarmeersen again and chill. So Marlene, Shun Ling, Peter, and myself went out, did a few cars, then had some ice cream cus it was pretty hot. We had dinner, and at the table i found out that Brian and Matt are leaving in two days time, on the 30th, and then Peter leaves on the 30th but in the afternoon, and Shun Ling leaves Monday morning on the 4th of July so basically, until i leave, im on my own. Suh-weeet. So i get to prod Leo with all my questions and i can learn everything that i need to now and I get to hang out with Marlene who seriously spoils me all the time like a grand son yea its gonna rock. This is what i came here for. Partly. I came here to learn and to do evangelism but the evangelism has been a bit on the down side recently.

29th--More of yesterday but during my free time it was raining so, for some reason i really like walking in the rain, i went out and about, walking down the street, past gas stations and into a psychiatric ward/museum and that was nice. There were a bunch of trees and hedges in the ward and a small creppy little garden thing with hedges on both sides so you're kinda enclosed and all. i was expecting Jack Nicholson to pop out and scare the crap out of me. But he was on vacation. or doing golf. one or the other. And i wrote here in my handy dandy *zip* notebook that we "went into downtown". So we did.....and did....stuff............downtown....

That. Go to Plaza Mayor and have tapas there; they have these awesome street performers. When I was there I got the feeling that most of the backpackers' area is around Puerta del Sol.

On a more cultural thing...Museo del Prado is the one place I love most, but only if you're into that stuff. And the churches are really gorgeous there except there are so many of them. Plaza de la Cibeles, Gran Via, Puerta de Alcala, Palacio Real--all places you should at least pass by.

The monument to Columbus has the Centro Cultural under the waterfall, and there's usually theatre or music or dance performances going on. Oh and since I was in love with Cervantes I loved Plaza de España because they had a statue of him with his characters Don Quijote and Sancho Panza.

Check out the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the Real Madrid stadium! I'd tell you to go watch a bullfight, if that's your thing, but, gross. OH! Go to El Rastro (the flea market) on Sunday.

I like the Retiro park to just chill out and relax; there's a place where people can leave their books for other people to read in the park, it's pretty fun.

...Hmm. Party, eat and look through museums.

You should probably go out of the city to Valley of the Fallen which is this civil war monument and El Escorial this palace/monastery/religious place. Then there's Salamanca (not the district in Madrid, the university town about two hours away) to look for the frog, hehe among other things; Toledo, to see the Alcázar and they sell really beautifully handmade swords there. Avila is another nice city, Léon another...

Um yea, those are the ones around Madrid I'd go to. There are amusement parks outside the city (like a Warner Bros for some bizarre reason) as well if you're into that.

Haha I'm a freaking weirdo aren't I?

Just say "habla inglés?" and "no hablo español" a lot. Then there's the ultimately important "una cerveza fría, por favor" to order your cold beer (yea I remember your obsession with really really cold beer) and of course, ultimately, "dondé esta el baño/los servicos?" will be needed sometime following several cervezas.

Too bad you're there when it's fricking hot. It's a good thing you can nap during the day as nobody does anything during siesta--they take it seriously.

You have to tell us what you did there.
